A man remains in custody this morning in relation to the discovery of a number of attempted improvised explosive devices.
There were found by Gardai in the North East and in the South West of the country.

The devices were discovered in a number of operations this month, one being in Castleblayney last week which resulted in an area of Muckno Street being closed for a number of hours.
The man, who is in his 40s, was arrested in County Monaghan on Sunday, and is being detained at a Garda station in the north western region.
Gardaí say they're continuing to liaise with the PSNI as part of the investigation.

It’s understood the man is from South Armagh area.

The Irish Examiner is reporting that security sources say while the devices were viable they were missing certain technical expertise.
The devices were placed at commercial premises either at water connection points or at waste water treatment plants.

The man that’s been questioned can be held for up to 48 hours, excluding potential rest periods.
