Man to go on trial over Roscommon Garda's death

'He was shot at Main Street, Castlerea in June 2020'

The trial is due to open today of a man accused of murdering a Garda in Co Roscommon over two years ago.

Stephen Silver, of Aughavard, Foxford, Co Mayo, pleaded not guilty to the murder earlier this week, but guilty of manslaughter by diminished responsibility.

Detective Garda Colm Horkan died in the course of his duties, after he was shot at Main Street, Castlerea in June 2020. The trial is expected to last up to seven weeks.
