The shortest St. Patrick’s Day parade in the world takes place in Co. Monaghan as usual today.
The village or Oram bear Castleblayney is the capital of ‘Big Tom Country’ and with a population of less than 200, the townland lays claim to the “shortest” parade in the world every year.
The parade, begins at Romney’s shop at 12 noon and finishes at the Oram Centre where the small community with the big heart gives everyone free bangers and mash at the end of the shortest parade.
Country legend and neighbour Margo is the parade’s grand marshal.
And, as you might expect in Big Tom’s hometown the music in Oram will last all day with the grand nephew of Big Tom, Damian Davis, performing in the centre.
