The head of the local Garda division says there has been a marked increase in drug driving.
The Chief Superintendent of the Louth-Cavan-Monaghan Division, Alan McGovern says he's concerned by the rise in motorists who are taking to the roads who are under the influence of drugs.
He says Gardai locally are making more detections and testing capabilities have increased also
Mr McGovern says people need to be aware that drugs can stay in your system for a longer period than you may think.
Drivers are being asked to always drive within the speed limit, watch out for vulnerable road users, wear a seatbelt and never use a mobile phone when behind the wheel.
Chief Superintendent McGovern says the rules of the roads need to be followed at all times to ensure everyone is kept safe. He says the fact is the rise in drug driving is concerning.
