A local Fianna Fáil councillor says heads must roll in the wake of the Presidential Election disaster for the party.
Jim Gavin's withdrawal came from the presidential race after reports he allegedly owes a former tenant over 3 thousand euro.
It means the presidential election will be a two horse race between Fine Gael's Heather Humphreys and independent Catherine Connolly.
Monaghan Fianna Fáil councillor Raymond Aughey says his party made a big mistake and he said there must be consequences.
He believes this has been a breaking point for Fianna Fáil and heads must roll.
Speaking to Northern Sound FM, Cllr Aughey says accountability is now needed.
He says the grass roots of the party are very disappointed and the Monaghan councillor says when you lose the dressing room then sometimes you need to look in the mirror and decide and remember no one is bigger than the party.
When asked who he would be supporting now in the election, he gave this response.
