A Monaghan councillor has called for a response from EirGrid in relation to a new electricity link between Northern Ireland and Scotland.
Sinn Fein's Noel Keelan hopes the under-grounding of such a scheme can act as an example to EirGrid as to why the overhead cabling of the North South Interconnector between counties Monaghan, Cavan and Meath "should not" go ahead.
Cllr Keelan also revealed that Minister Eamon Ryan will meet local representatives of Monaghan County Council to discuss issues around the North South Interconnector, local road projects and the active travel scheme.
Speaking to Northern Sound in relation to his concerns over the North South Interconnector, Cllr Keelan believes that the people of Monaghan have been treated "differently" than others.
He added that if the under-cabling of large schemes can be done elsewhere, then why can similar works not be carried out within this region.
"We need this interconnector to be built underground, but we can't seem to get them to turn their face against that and look at the new and emerging technologies," explained Cllr Keelan.
