Minister for Education, Helen McEntee visited Belturbet last Friday to discuss the future needs of education in the Co Cavan Town.
She met students and teachers from both national schools in the town along with the secondary school.
The Minister along with local representatives called to the schools to discuss the plans for an amalgamation of the two primary schools. There has been hopes for a few years that St Mary's Boys national school in Belturbet and the neighbouring Convent of Mercy would amalgamate.
Minister McEntee also met with the principal of St Bricins in relation to the possibility of purchasing near by lands to the local secondary school. Local councillor, Brendan Fay says this land acquisition would allow for a sports hall to be built at the school and would be for the betterment of school students for generations to come.
Cllr Fay says it was great to have the minister in town to show her first-hand what the students of the area needs going forward.
