A Monaghan councillor says a Muslim representative should be involved in a Day of Remembrance and Recognition for those who died during the covid-pandemic.
On the 18th of March, there will be a public holiday to remember those who lost their lives due to Covid and to recognise the front-line workers and volunteers.
On the same date, a Remembrance and Recognition event will be held in St Mary's Hospital, Castleblayney, at 11 am.
An Imam is a person who has a leadership position in an Islamic community, and Sinn Féin's Sean Conlon requested that an Imam be invited to the Castleblayney event.
Representatives from Christian denominations will be present, and Sean Conlon told a recent County Council meeting it's important to also recognise those of the Muslim faith who worked on the front line during the pandemic, particularly in the health service.
