Monaghan councillor's waste and recycling business to be sold in reported €12 million deal

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has cleared the deal.

A waste and recycling business founded by a Monaghan councillor is set to be sold in a deal worth a reported €12 million.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has cleared the deal which will see 'Exomex', which trades under the name of 'McElvaney's Waste and Recycling', sold to Pandagreen.

Local Councillor Hugh McElvaney is a founding shareholder of Exomex, which provides waste collection services across Cavan, Monaghan, and Louth.

During an investigation into whether the proposed transaction would result in a "substantial lessening of competition", the CCPC identified potential concerns in the waste collection sector in Louth.

Pandagreen submitted proposals to address these concerns and the CCPC deemed these commitments to be "appropriate and effective in addressing the identified competition concerns".
