A protest is taking place in Monaghan Town this week to highlight the importance of SNA's to families and schools across the region.
The protest will take place outside of the Courthouse on Wednesday at 5pm.
Local Aontú representative, Olivia Larkin is both a teacher, and a parent to a child with special needs.
She said the announcement of cuts to SNA positions in some schools has caused huge worry, stress and frustration to a thousand of people up and down the country.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Olivia said that the Department of Education doesn't understand the effect that their decisions has on people.
She said you cannot base an SNA solely based on the medical needs of a child.
Olivia said: "This seems to be the modus apparatus of the Department of Education. They make these snap decisions, and they don't really understand what they're doing and the effect it has on people.
"You can't operate like that, SNAs are vital. To pause it is even causing more unnecessary stress. They need to come out and clearly explain their rationale, and give schools the opportunity to explain that that doesn't work.
"You cannot base an SNA just on the medical needs of a child, it just doesn't work like that," Olivia added.
