Monaghan's Chief Fire Officer, Dermot Brannigan is encouraging local communities to "keep an eye out" for those who are most vulnerable this winter.
His comments come as part of Fire Safety week with a number of initiatives taking place across the Northern Sound region.
Dermot is calling on locals to identify vulnerable people in their community who may be at risk of a fire going into the winter months.
Dermot described data from 2024 as "rather sobering" after it was identified that 25 fire fatalities took place, 21 of which occurred in domestic settings.
60% of these of fatalities were all over the age of 65.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Dermot said it's important to "keep an eye out" for vulnerable members of society.
The public is being advised to take actions such as to spot and remove fire hazards around the house, keep escape routes clear and easy to access and to test smoke alarms:
