The chairperson of Monaghan GAA has paid tribute to the late Eugene 'Nudie' Hughes.
Cremartin man Declan Flanagan said that Nudie is a legend in Monaghan and all over Ireland.
He recalled the Castleblayney man's star studded career for both his club and county, and noted the impact that he made on footballers all over the country, and not just in Monaghan.
Mr. Flanagan confirmed that there will be a minutes silence to remember Nudie Hughes before the Ulster Club Championship games involving Carrickmacross and Scotstown this weekend.
The chairperson of the county board told Northern Sound an amusing story that "summed up" how important Nudie was to Monaghan GAA.
He said: "Nudie could nearly play anywhere, he told the story himself, there might have been a wee bit of the truth in it, but Nudie would always have a bit of craic.
"The Castleblayney Faughs team, a very very strong unit, were sitting in the changing rooms in St. Mary's Park waiting for the manager to come, he was late.
"The manager came in, and he was so late the other team were already on the pitch, and the referee was blowing the whistle.
"He came in and he said, 'lads, I'm sorry I'm late, but I'll make this very quick. Nudie, you're centre-half, the rest of you, spread out.'
"That sums up the man himself, the character he was. He broke the hearts of so many players in so many clubs, but in those clubs, Nudie has so many friends," he added.
