Monaghan home gutted in overnight fire

Northern Sound spoke to the homeowner who confirmed that nobody was injured in the blaze.

The Main Roslea to Monaghan Road R187 has reopened this morning following a house fire at Sweeney's cross. The road was closed during the night to enable fire services from both Monaghan and Clones deal with a thatched roof house fire at Sweeney’s cross. Local fires crews deployed BA and hydraulic platform to bring the fire which caused "extensive damage" under control. Local fire crews were working at the scene overnight for almost 12 hours under "difficult circumstances." Northern Sound spoke to the homeowner who confirmed that nobody was injured in the blaze and the road has since reopened with local traffic diversions removed.
