The owners of the cinema in Monaghan Town has warned young people going there to watch the Minecraft Movie, they will be removed if they disrupt the film or throw popcorn. Omniplex Cinemas issued the warning following a complaint by a listener to this station.
A member of the public sent a video showing a thick trail of popcorn, drinks cups, wrappers and straws strewn along rows of seats in Monaghan Omniplex after a showing of "A Minecraft Movie" over the weekend.
A viral social media trend involves movie-goers screaming out and throwing popcorn during a scene involving a "chicken jockey", a character from the Minecraft game. And, cinema-goers in Monaghan were no different shouting out "chicken jockey" at the allocated time throwing buckets of popcorn all around them.
An adult cinema-goer contacted Northern Sound to complain about the behaviour and when it was put to Monaghan Omniplex the head office said "Disruptive or unruly actions, especially those that make fellow cinemagoers or staff feel unsafe, will not be tolerated."
A statement went on to say that while Omniplex Cinemas "fully embrace the energy and excitement that cinema brings, we must also be mindful of behaviour that can negatively impact the experience for others.
Bosses now warn young people who plan to go to see A Minecraft Movie in the coming days that "Excessive disruption, particularly at popular screenings like Minecraft, will result in removal from the premises and no refund will be given." They also remind customers that "filming or recording any part of a movie playing in a cinema strictly prohibited and illegal."]
