The Government is set to establish an inquiry into the State's handling of Covid-19 by the end of the summer. It's reported it will focus on informing future responses to public health emergencies.
Monaghan Professor, Sam McConkey is a specialist in infectious diseases at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He says the upcoming inquiry should have an emphasis on learning as opposed to finger-pointing.
"What I would like to see is an open and honest discussion about how we can build a better Ireland to cope with the next number of crisis over the next 10 or 20 years. I want to see that at governance levels and at a systems robust level," he added.
