A Monaghan Senator has raised the "deplorable" condition of some of the roads in Cavan and Monaghan in the Seanad today.
Robbie Gallagher said there is a need for a substantial increase in allocation of funding for roads this year to try and begin the process of undoing the lack of investment over that last number of years.
He says the budget towards local and regional roads wasn't where it should have been in the last number of years.
As a result of this, Senator Gallagher says the roads have deteriorated.
Speaking to Northern Sound, the Fianna Fail Senator said some of the roads in the region are becoming impassable.
