Monaghan Senator Robbie Gallagher said he is "hopeful" that a resolution can be found before ambulance personnel return to the picket line next week.
Talks aimed at resolving a pay dispute between ambulance workers and the HSE are getting underway.
Representatives from unions and the health service were yesterday invited to take part in mediation at the Labour Court.
SIPTU and Unite say their members are prepared to return to picket lines if they're not happy with the outcome of today's discussions.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Senator Gallagher said he sympathises with workers who want to be caring for members of their community and not on the picket line.
He is encouraging all sides to engage and find a solution to this problem.
