Fine Gael's Pauric Clerkin has called on Monaghan County Council to write to Minister for Mental Health Mary Butler and the HSE in relation to providing vital funding that will allow SOSAD Ireland to retain its messaging service. SOSAD which operates across the North East including Cavan and Monaghan announced on Sunday that it would cease its messaging service from today. The shocking announcement prompted Cllr Clerkin to put forward a motion at yesterday's siting of Monaghan County Council.
Cllr Clerkin is also calling on Minister Butler and the HSE to provide further funding to help SOSAD offer its vital mental health services to people not just across Co Monaghan but the North-East region. Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Clerkin said he first raised funding issues at local authority level before Christmas. He described correspondence since then from the Minister as not good enough;
