Monaghan sports clubs urged to prepare for Sports Capital Grant

County Monaghan Sports Clubs Encouraged to Begin Preparations for 2026 Sports Capital Grant Applications.

Sports clubs across Co Monaghan planning upgrades to their facilities are being urged to begin preparing their applications for next year's round of Sports Capital grants.

The call comes from Cllr Pauric Clerkin, who says early preparation is key to securing funding in what is expected to be a highly competitive process.

Cllr Clerkin highlighted that the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme (SCEP) remains one of the most important sources of funding for local sports organisations, enabling clubs to modernise facilities, improve accessibility, and expand participation.

The Fine Gael councillor has strongly encouraged all sports clubs in Co Monaghan to start organising their documentation and planning their projects now.

Speaking to Northern Sound, he said being prepared early gives clubs the best possible chance of success when applications open.

He explained: "This funding has transformed sports infrastructure in our county over the years, and I want to see as many clubs as possible benefit again next year."

"Clubs should begin gathering required materials such as tax compliance details, property documentation, quotes for works, and evidence of club membership and community engagement. Clubs considering joint applications or partnerships with schools or community groups were also advised to open discussions early."

Cllr. Clerkin added that he is available to support local organisations across County Monaghan as they navigate the application process: "My door is always open to any club seeking guidance as they prepare their submission. These grants are a tremendous opportunity, and I want to help ensure Monaghan clubs are well positioned to secure funding."

Further information on the Sports Capital Programme, including guidelines and previous examples of successful projects, is expected to be made available by the Department of Sport closer to the opening of the 2026 application window.
