Rosaleen Molloy from Monaghan was recently bestowed with a Lifetime achievement award from Volunteers Ireland for her years of service.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Rosaleen said she was deeply honoured to become the latest recipient of such a prestigious accolade. She is a founder member of the local branch of Special Olympics and a volunteer with the diocesean pilgrimage to Lourdes and the Tydavnett Faith and Light initiative.
Rosaleen said that volunteering affords everyone the opportunity to become more involved in their community and gain a better understanding of the importance of extending the hand of friendship. She added that volunteering is especially beneficial for young people as it provides them with valuable insights into the journey of life.
"It was a great honour to receive the award; I don't volunteer just to get an award," Rosaleen added.
"I want to thank everyone who helped me along the way; I really am delighted to received such a prestigious award."
