A local councillor has called for a full report from Inland Fisheries Ireland in relation to a fish kill in Ballinagh.
Cllr Winston Bennett said that details need to be obtained in relation to a fish kill that saw over 1,000 mortalities in the Ballinagh river.
IFI environmental and fisheries staff have identified deceased brown trout, stickleback, minnow and roach along a 1km stretch of the river.
Water samples have been taken from the scene, and IFI is following a definite line of enquiry into the suspected source of the pollution.
Cllr Bennett says it's the second fish kill in the Co Cavan river in the past 3 years.
The Fine Gael councillor says locals are concerned and feel like nothing is being done over the problem.
Inland Fisheries Ireland say they were alerted to a contamination impact in the water by a member of the public on July 13th and they say investigations are continuing.
Cllr Bennett says he has been hearing from irate farmers that say that if they caused a pollution problem they would have 6 weeks to deal with the situation, while this issue has been running on for years.
He says this is an issue that we need to make sure it doesn't happen again:
