More than 'thoughts and prayers' needed for Wellman workers

Speaking in the Seanad, Aontú's Sarah O Reilly expressed her concern at the lack of redundancy packages for Irish employees of Indorama Ventures.

A Cavan senator believes the Government needs to provide more than thoughts and prayers to workers in Wellman International.

The Mullagh based company filed to enter examinership, placing 217 jobs at risk. It is the largest largest European producer of recycled polyester fibres. The business began operations in Mullagh in March 1973 and the site was acquired by Indorama Ventures in 2011. Speaking in the Seanad, Aontú's Sarah O'Reilly expressed her concern at the lack of redundancy packages for Irish employees of Indorama Ventures.

Addressing local Minister of State, Niamh Smyth, she says Minister Smyth should start 'shoving her weight around' to ensure the workers are protected.
