The Monaghan Roads Policing Unit recently carried out speed checks on the N2 in the vicinity of Monaghan town. As a result of the operation, members of the local policing unit detected a motorist travelling at 160kmph in a 100kmph speed limit zone.
According to Gardai, road conditions "were not good" as it was raining at the time of the incident and there was a staggered junction where other motorists where attempting to exit.
The driver was subsequently arrested, charged and is now to appear before the courts.
