A Cavan woman who was murdered by her husband had been 'controlled' by him for years, according to her sister.
In an interview conducted by The Irish Times, Clodagh Hawe's sister, Jacqueline Connolly, revealed the murdered woman's marriage was 'not normal.'
She told the paper that any texts shared between the two sisters had to be forwarded back to Clodagh's husband, Alan Hawe, as part of the control he exerted over her.
Jacqueline Connolly has published a tell-all book entitled 'Deadly Silence,' in which she described murderer Alan Hawe as a 'wolf in sheep's clothing who fooled us all.'
In 2016, Clodagh and her three sons, aged between six and thirteen, were brutally murdered by her husband in their home near Ballyjamesduff, who took his own life shortly after.
Recent 'serious failings' in the original investigation into the murder of the Cavan family were detected, which included mistakes in collecting vital CCTV.
Crucial digital evidence, including a secret phone used by murderer Alan Hawe to access illegal pornography was also missed.
Sister Jacqueline Connolly shared that although she had only learned of the manipulation after the murders, she had 'failed to recognise it in Clodagh's life.'
