A new pedestrian crossing is planned for the Oriel Road in Carrickmacross.
Local councillor Colm Carthy says the link road between the old Ardee road and the Dundalk Road, is heavily trafficked and has seen a huge increase in pedestrian activity over the years also.
Cllr Carthy first requested a safe on-road pedestrian crossing about 10 years ago.
There are two very large housing estates serviced directly from Oriel Road (Convent Lands and Lough na Glack as well as two industrial access roads and a large supermarket.
The local Sinn Fein councillor said since he first raised his call for the crossing, there has also been a group home for persons with significant mobility issues, a primary care centre, a new entrance onto the waste water treatment plant and an increase in commercial/industrial enterprises in the area. Cllr Carthy has welcomed the news and highlighted that a public consultation is now opened in relation to the pedestrian crossing.
