Stormont's Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins is appealing the decision of a Belfast court to overturn permission for Northern Ireland's biggest roads project.
The massive €1.3 billion euro upgrade to the A5 is an important link for the wider northwest including Donegal - and it's supported with €600 million euro of Irish Government money.
It affects a 55km section linking Strabane and Ballygawley.
In June, Belfast's High Court found in favour of landowners who had opposed the redevelopment of the A5 road through Tyrone and Derry. The judge said there was insufficient evidence that the project complied with Stormont's own legally binding climate change legislation.
In July, Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins flagged her intention to appeal but needed the support of her Executive colleagues. Daniel McCrossan, SDLP West Tyrone MLA says speed is of the essence. A man at the forefront of a safety campaign for an upgrade to a road which has claimed scores of lives in Northern Ireland - says it's crucial the improvements are made as soon as possible.
Brendan Hurl is from the 'Enough is Enough' group - which campaigns on the A5. Mr. Hurl says he's confident the upgrade will go ahead.
