There are no plans to turn off Christmas lights in Cavan and Monaghan this December.
Earlier this week, the Environment Minister suggested that local authorities may not turn on their Christmas lights this because of the ongoing energy crisis.
Speaking on Tuesday Minister Eamon Ryan said that public buildings could lead the way in energy conservation this winter, saying that councils are already looking at their festive lights as a way to save.
Responding to a query by Northern Sound News, Cavan County Council said no advice has been received from central Government on this matter and there are currently no plans to restrict Christmas lights in towns and villages across the county.
However, the statement added that the local authority will continue to monitor energy usage over the coming months and work with the Government to implement any recommendations issued.
Meanwhile, it was confirmed that the municipal districts in Monaghan have not considered the option of leaving the Christmas lights off, but that the MDs can evaluate the options later when there is more information on the situation.
