Cllr PJ O’Hanlon has been elected as Chairman of the East Border Region for the coming year.
2026 marks a significant milestone for the East Border Region as the organisation celebrates its 50th Anniversary.
It is one of the longest established cross border groupings in Europe.
Cllr PJ O’Hanlon said it is a great honour for me to accept the position of Chairman of East Border Region.
He said he has been associated with the organisation for many years and it’s an even bigger honour not just for him but for Monaghan to hold the Chair during the EBR 50th Anniversary celebrations.
Cllr O’Hanlon congratulated Cllr Tim McClelland, Armagh City Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council who was elected vice-chairman.
The organisation was established in 1976 in the height of the troubles by local politicians who had the vision and foresight to see the benefits of collaborating with their nearest neighbours across the border.
Since those difficult times, EBR has flourished and has successfully drawn down significant EU funding which has benefited the citizens of the region.
EBR are currently managing in excess of €16 million of PEACEPLUS Funding for a range of innovative and exciting projects.
