Hundreds of people have taken part in a vigil tonight to remember the five young people who died in a crash in Dundalk, Co Louth, last weekend.
Three separate vigils were arranged in Ardee, Drumconrath and Aughnamullen to pay tribute to the five friends.
The victims in the collision were: Chloe McGee, 23 from Carrickmacross and Shay Duffy, 21, from Magheracloone; Alan McCluskey, 23, from Drumconrath; Dylan Commins, 23, from Ardee; and Chloe Hipson, 21, from Lanarkshire, Scotland.
Fr Owen Gorman, parish priest for Aughnamullen led prayers at the vigil that was attended by hundreds at the local GAA grounds.
Annie Hanaway from Aughnamullen LFC said, “we morn the lives of five young people that had their lives tragically cut short. Chloe has stepped out on this very pitch to pride many many times.
“Over the last few days, we've been talking about different games that we all played with her throughout the years. And one game in particular comes to mind, she managed to get up the pitch and got her name on the scoresheet, and she turned to the management and said, just call me the Gooch. I think that sums up Chloe and her outlook on life.
“She always got stuck in to get the hard work done, but could have the crack and a laugh about it at the same time, she was a beautiful girl inside and out, and anytime you met her, we were greeted with the friendliest smile and the biggest hello. “
The people gathered on the local pitch then paused for a minute in silence to honour the lives of Chloe McGee and her four friends who lives were so tragically lost but so beautifully lived.
Pj Markey, Chairman of Augnamullen GFC said, “the GAA club here has been more than just a place to play games, it's a family, a place of serious triumphs and now shared grief.
“We extend our deep sympathies to the McGee and Sherdian family and the families of the four young friends of Chloe who also lost their lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this unimaginably difficult time.
“We will stand with them, not just today, but tomorrow and in all the days to come. We are a community, let us now be a pillar of strength for each other. Let us lean on one another. Offer a hand, a listening ear, a comforting word, our community spirit, will help us through this tragedy.
“We will honour Chloe by continuing to lift the values that we have and our club has , we will find strength in our unity.”
Post-mortem examinations of the deceased have now been completed and their remains have been released to their families.
