Complaints about potholes have surged by 92 per cent in the past three years.
New Freedom of Information figures show 48 thousand complaints were recorded by local councils between 2022 and 2024.
There has been 2,610 such complaints in Cavan and Monaghan during the three year period. 1,543 complaints were made to Monaghan County Council and 1,067 pothole complaints were made to Cavan County Council.
People in Cork complained the most - followed by Dublin, Kerry, Limerick and Meath. While people in Kildare complained the least - followed by Leitrim and Carlow.
The number of pothole compensation claims lodged with both local authorities in the region total 363.
When it comes to pay-outs for pothole damage, almost €60,000 has been paid by Cavan and Monaghan County Council's during 2022 and 2024. €29,444 has been paid out by Monaghan County Council and €28,125 by Cavan County Council.
