Over 270 people in the Northern Sound region were caught not wearing their seatbelts last year.
Figures for the Louth-Cavan-Monaghan Garda division reveal 279 people were detected, with RSA research showing four in five are not secured properly.
The south of the country had the highest number of detections, while the lowest was in the north west region, at 1,737.
Ireland South MEP Cynthia Ní Mhurchú is calling for the immediate introduction of road safety cameras that can flag people not wearing a seatbelt.
"5,848 people were caught not wearing their seatbelt whilst driving in 2024. Figures released by Gardaí have shown that. In some counties, the year-on-year increases in people caught not wearing a seatbelt was as high as 95 percent. So I'm calling for a get-tough approach on drivers who do not wear their seatbelts. We committed in the programme for government to introduce new road safety cameras to automatically detect non-wearing of seatbelts and I want that to be implemented immediately."
