Over 400 vehicles were licensed for the first time across the Northern Sound region last month.
The finding comes from a recent report compiled by the Central Statistics Office. The CSO provided a breakdown of the number of vehicles registered for the first time per licensing authority, fuel type and make. In the Northern Sound region, Co. Cavan saw the most cars licensed for the first time in April, at 260.
This is followed by 187 vehicles registered in Co. Monaghan. Of these, 29 across both counties were electric vehicles, while 66 were petrol and electric hybrid vehicles. Volkswagen was the most popular car make licensed for the first time in April, at 62 registrations. Nationally, the total number of new private cars licensed in April 2025 increased by 5% in comparison with the same period last year.
While the number of new electric vehicles registered in April rose by 23% when compared with April 2024.
