Over 500 properties in Cavan and Monaghan have been approved for vacant property refurbishment grants.
They are among over 12,400 applications received across the country to the end of March this year with 8,652 approved since the scheme was first introduced back in July of 2022.
Nationally, over €112 million has been paid out to date to the 2,096 applicants that have the works carried out.
308 applications have been approved by Cavan County Council up to the end of March with works completed on 55 homes at the cost of just over €3 million. 10 applications in Cavan have been rejected to date.
While in Monaghan, 210 applications have been approved along with a further 12 applications being refused. 67 homes have received the grant under the scheme with almost €4 million being refunded to the homeowners of the properties that carried out the works to date.
The average payment of around €57,000 per project was paid out across both Cavan and Monaghan. Individuals who own or are in the process of purchasing a vacant property can avail of this grant of up to €50,000 for vacant properties, with a maximum grant of €70,000 for derelict properties.
The government says they expect payments of grants to continue at pace throughout the year as more refurbishment works reach completion.
