A local councillor has branded the increases seen overnight for fuel prices as an absolute disgrace.
Cllr Brendan Fay highlighted the issue at this week's monthly council meeting of Cavan County Council.
He said an increase from 90c to €1.66 for home heating oil over a two day period can only be described as price gouging.
Cllr Fay said diesel prices have been changing at some forecourts by 10c a litre every day.
According to oilprices.ie during the week, the cost of 500 litres in Cavan stands at €944.50 on average.
The online price comparison website shows Monaghan is also among the highest on average costing €929.50 for the same fill of 500 litres of home heating oil.
