The owner of a well-known estate in Co Cavan has died.
American John Morehart owns the historic Bellamont Castle in Cootehill.
The 69-year-old purchased the 18th-century Palladian villa and demesne which stands on a thousand acres outside Cootehill for over €2 million.
Local man Noel Carney said he knew Mr Morehart for many years and described him as a "great people person."
He told Northern Sound that Mr Moreheart initially came to Ireland 30 years ago and fell in love with the island and the people.
He bought a holiday house in West Cork and always said he wanted a farm or land and when Bellmont came up for sale he bought it back in 2015.
Noel Carney said the late John Morehart started a major conservation and restoration plan for the house which is now complete and has protected the structure for the next 100 years:
