Former DUP MP for North Antrim, Ian Paisley Jr, believes there doesn't appear to be an overwhelming groundswell of support for a border poll.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, Mr. Paisley Jr said that stats indicate that roughly of the Republic of Ireland are "content with the status quo".
He claimed that to "upset that would be problematic".
The former MP is taking part in Borderland, a new podcast series by BBC Northern Ireland.
Mr Paisley has called on people to use their heads and not their hearts on a border poll.
He believes that there should be a focus on solving the internal problems of Northern Ireland, to make the country function.
Mr. Paisley said: "I think people have to use their heads in this, and not their hearts.
"Heads suggest, changing the constitutional position of a country that is internally divided, and bringing it to a new constitutional position, just moves the division from one constitutional reality to another constitutional reality.
"It doesn't solve the problems internally. What we really should be working on, is solving the internal problems of Northern Ireland," he added.
