The Dublin TD and leader of Sinn Féin says it's not helpful for government ministers or others to play to fiction, the fictional idea that there isn't a problem in the inner city.
She also recognised that there are community safety issues in places beyond Dublin as well, but the capital city gets a particular focus.
Ms McDonald blamed this on lack of Gardai, the visibility and presence of them, hostile accommodation, transient accommodation, which she says is necessary, but it's all clustered in very specific parts. She says it's because of a whole range of issues that is leaving Dublin unsafe.
