A peaceful protest is planned in Carrickmacross tomorrow evening.
Organisers says the protest is in response to an increase in criminal activity in the area.
They are calling on local representatives and Gardai to take a stance and hear their concerns at the peaceful assembly. In a statement issued to Northern Sound News, Carrickamcross Community watch group say they are having a peaceful assembly in Carrickmacross town this Friday evening April 25th at 6pm outside the front of the courthouse.
Organisers of the protest are suggesting CCTV to be installed in areas like the playground and Convent Avenue, where people like to go for walks. They say they are inundated with messages from concerned people on a daily basis.
The group is appealing to local td's and councillors along with the Gardai to do something to help the situation and make Carrickmacross a safer place. Laura McElroy who is behind the planned protest has been living Carrickamacross for over 20 years, she says people living in the area are concerned.
Gardai in Carrickmacross last week issued a statement in relation to misinformation, disinformation and uninformed commentary circulating on social media as a result of a recent video posted online from Carrickmacross.
They confirmed in the statement that they have carried out enquiries relating to this video and confirmed it involves juveniles using a toy item, which has been recovered. Enquiries are ongoing and Gardaí are satisfied there are no public safety concerns arising from the online video, at this time.
The statement that they have issued added that misinformation, disinformation and fake news can spread fear and concern in peaceful communities with incorrect and dangerous misconceptions, particularly about International Protection and minority groups. An Garda Síochána say they appeal to the public to independently verify any information on social media and / or on messaging apps.
