People in Northern Ireland having 'difficulty' securing Irish passport

'People deserve to have service delivery close and accessible to them'

People living in Northern Ireland are experiencing difficulty getting an Irish passport. It's due to several strikes in December by the Communications Workers Union in the UK.

The Irish Passport Office suspended posting passports to the North and England due to the industrial action. There are now calls for an Irish Passport Office to open in Belfast to facilitate holidaymakers.

Senator Niall Ó Donnghaile, Sinn Féin’s Leader in the Seanad, is calling for the new office. "What we actually need is a passport office where people don't have to take the day and arrange to go to Dublin.

"They don't need to be dealing with these ongoing issues and deserve to have service delivery close and accessible to them," he added.
