Following a local Fine Gael convention last night, Peter Conlon emerged victorious in his bid to become the next local area representative in the Carrickmacross/Castleblayney Municipal District.
In a contest between Cllr Conlon and Pat Cassidy who ran in the local elections in 2019, the newly elected councillors secured the seat vacated by his mother Mary Kerr Conlon last month, when she retired after 25 years in the local political arena.
And, while Cllr Conlon admits that he has "big shoes to fill", he says there a number of issues that he will be focused on.
He added that securing funding for local community initiatives will be at the heart of his plans.
Cllr Conlon also paid tribute to his mother, who he added, "had done great work in the community".
