Prayers said for Troubles Disappeared who remain missing

The 19th annual All Souls Silent Walk for the Disappeared took place yesterday afternoon.

Members of the Families of the Disappeared laid the black wreath with five white lilies representing those who have yet to be found: Joe Lynskey, Columba McVeigh, Robert Nairac, Seamus Maguire and Lisa Dorrian.

Father Joe Gormley lead prayers at the annual event. Dr Sandra Peake, CEO of the WAVE Trauma Centre which organises the annual event said this year’s Silent Walk is particularly poignant as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of the murder and disappearance of Columba McVeigh.

She said for the McVeigh family it is a terrible milestone to be reached and we all hope and pray that the current search for Columba at Bragan Bog Co Monaghan is successful and he can be brought home to Donaghmore to be with his Mum and Dad.

Also speaking before the Silent Walk, Dympna Kerr, Columba’s sister said, Columba will always be my big, wee brother.She said for years I couldn’t bring myself to go to Bragan Bog, adding that she forces herself to go now but it is never anything but an awful nightmare. She said even on Bragan Bog she still as hope that her beloved brother will be finally located there.
