A public meeting is to take place tonight in Carrickmacross, following what a local TD has described as an "unprecedented level of local unease" in the town in recent weeks.
The meeting will be held in the Shirley Arms Hotel at 8pm tonight. Deputy Matt Carthy has invited Gardaí, council officials, elected representatives from all parties and local community groups to attend and speak at the meeting at which members of the public can share their concerns and proposals.
Deputy Carthy said he has been contacted by several concerned residents of the town who have asked him to organise a public meeting where concerns can be addressed. He said people in Carrickmacross are angry and frustrated. Deputy Carthy says he shares that anger and frustration, adding that he knows that people often don't feel safe in our own town.
The Carrickmacross TD says there's a number of issues including anti-social behaviour, crime, lack of garda visibility along with dereliction. He believes tonight's meeting will give local people an opportunity to have their say
