A local councillor has highlighted his concerns over climate action strategies introduced by Monaghan County Council. The appointment of a new climate officer was questioned by Cllr Seamus Treanor at the most recent sitting of Monaghan County Council. Cllr Treanor highlighted the number of complaints he received in the aftermath of Storm Eowyn from residents in homes which were now totally reliant on electricity for energy.
According to Cllr Treanor, when storms like Eowyn occurred in the late 50s and early 60s people were able to get by, however nowadays it impacts people a lot more due to retrofitting programmes implemented by local authorities.
