A Cavan senator says raising the student fee back to €3,000 would be disastrous for students.
It's understood that, as it stands, students heading to college this year will see their fees rise from €2,000 to €3,000.
Although Minister for Higher Education, James Lawless, later said that no decision on this has been finalised.
Local Sinn Féin Senator, Pauline Tully, highlighted the plight of a Cavan student who emailed her over the week.
The student has been forced to move back to Cavan, and commute to Dublin, due to the increasing rent prices and impending fees hike.
Speaking in the Seanad, Senator Tully, appealed to the Minister not to raise the fee.
