Recent unease in Carrickmacross raised with justice minister today

The first point he raised with him was Garda resources in the town of Carrickmacross.

The Cathaoirleach of the Carrickmacross/Castleblayney Municipal District, Cllr PJ O'Hanlon has spoken in length today with the Justice Minister, Jim O'Callaghan.

The local councillor raised a number of issues that has been highlighted in Carrickmacross in recent weeks with the Minister. Cllr PJ O'Hanlon confirmed that the justice minister said he was very aware of the issues in the town.

The first point he raised with him was Garda resources in the town of Carrickmacross. He informed the local councillor that he had a detailed report from Alan McGovern, Chief Superintendent of the Cavan Monaghan Division, and that he was happy that Carrickmacross was going to have no issues with Garda resources in the town. The Minister said that this issue with CCTV for the town was currently with the Garda Data Protection Unit and that he was hopeful to have a speedy resolution to this matter.

Electronic funds transfers to EU citizens other than Irish was also highlighted by Cllr O'Hanlon, he told the minister that he believe's it should cease and that all citizens should present themselves at the post office for payment. The justice minister confirmed he would take this up with the Minister for Social Protection Dara Calleary.

Cllr O'Hanlon described his conversation with Minister O'Callaghan as a positive one.
