Red letter day for proposed park/ride facility at Whitegate

Safety concerns have been flagged for well over a decade in relation to this area.

Calls for a Park and Ride facility at Whitegate Cross has moved a step closer.

Cavan County Council has been informed by the TII that as portion of money has been set aside to investigate the purchase of ground to facilitate the construction of a Park and Ride facility.

It's something that Councillor Shane P O'Reilly has been talking about and campaigning for over the years. He says it an issue that he has been banging his head against the wall over and he says he feels very vindicated today.

He says it a red letter day for him personally, and it's also a red letter day for the people of the area. Cllr O'Reilly says it's a very important step forward now after highlighting this for a long time, campaigning with others for over a decade.

Safety concerns have been flagged for well over a decade in relation to this area for a Park and Ride facility with a protest held in 2023 by locals over their fears.

New safety improved features in relation to parking at Whitegate and a change of location for school children being picked up and dropped off has been relocated to a safer location further up the N3. The Mullagh councillor says it's great to see these plans moving forward now in relation to having a facility after so many years.
