A local TD has welcomed plans surrounding the relaxation of planning laws around log cabins and modular homes.
A public consultation on Government plans to make log cabins in back gardens exempt from planning permission is now underway.
The proposals would allow people to build cabins or modular homes up to 45 square metres in size in their back gardens, provided at least 25 square metres of garden is retained.
Local TD David Maxwell has welcomed the plans, adding that this isn't about solving the housing crisis, it's about helping people that want to put a modular home or log cabin in their back garden.
The Fine Gael TD says this is about helping people in rural Ireland and now people wanting to put a building up to 45 square metres in size in their back garden will not need to seek planning permission. Deputy Maxwell says these changes will now allow certainty for some people who want to put a building in their garden.
