A local councillor says the people of Carrickmacross are upset and angry that they are not being listened to by the government. Cllr Seamus Treanor spoke at a protest that was held on Friday last, he said residents don’t feel safe in their own town. He said there was a heightened level of anti social behaviour in the town. Cllr Treanor said that people were upset and angry and felt the government were not listening to them.
More than 800 people were estimated to have attended the protest in Carrickmacross last Friday evening in an effort to express concerns about the effects of immigration. Speakers criticised the Government and the people who are profiteering from the housing of asylum seekers.
They called for changes to the IPAS system and immigration policies. Over 800 people gathered at Cloughvalley Park in the town for the peaceful assembly prior to marching a number of streets including the Main Street of Carrickmacross. Many people who took part in the march and assembly waved Irish flags during the 90 minute demonstration.
