Robert Francis Prevost has been elected as the new Pope.
The 68-year-old Augustinian is originally from Chicago and has now become the 267th Pope.
He serves as the head of the church's Dicastery for Bishop, which means he oversees the selection of new bishops.
Prevost has spent much of his time serving in Peru, and holds nationality in both the U.S. and Peru.
He will serve as the new Pope under the name, Leo XIV.
The new pontiff has now emerged onto the balcony of the Sistine Chapel, where he was met with raucous applause and cheers.
