Safety concerns on Lough Sheelin has been raised by local councillor Trevor Smith.
The Fine Gael representative raised the issue at yesterday's Ballyjamesduff Municipal District meeting.
Cllr Smith said the concerns and dangers centre on the need for an amendment to current bye laws.
Changes are needed surrounding a cap on engine size using local lakes like Lough Sheelin and members of Inland Fisheries Ireland can implement the bye laws.
Cllr Smith says a lot of councillors have been lobbied over this issue and Cllr Shane P O'Reilly brought a motion to request an alteration to existing bye laws on Lough Sheelin to reduce motorised engine capacity to a maximum 15hp at yesterday's meeting.
Cllr Smith says changes are needed to prevent dangers to the people that use the busy lake but also the habitat.
